Halo Connect: Higher Education, London

A day for university teams running Halo to hear how others are approaching the same decisions, with practical help to take back to your own service. Run in collaboration with Halo.

Why are we hosting a higher education-only Halo event?

We’re running this event to bring together people who use Halo and face similar constraints, challenges, and goals, so they can compare notes and see what works in a university or specialist college setting. We want everyone to leave with practical ways to get more value from the platform.

We’re keeping the spaces limited so everyone has a chance to contribute, and we’re bringing examples and experience from working with others who are trying to make the same improvements as you. We’ll also have a pre-configured Halo instance to demonstrate anything that’s best shared directly in the system.

Why are we doing this in collaboration with Halo?

Because of the nature of individuals drawn to work in the HE sector, we’ve found the culture is more collaborative and open to sharing ideas and challenges. This aligns perfectly with the working environment Halo provides for all graduates hired each year.

What we hope you’ll get out of the day

Ultimately, we hope you’ll leave the day with ideas for your own Halo implementation and other takeaways that might not necessarily be related to Halo.

We’ll be guiding the session to cover topics such as:

  • What is the Halo Service Data Model (SDM), and how can it help us present our services to staff, students, and academics?
  • How can the data from your existing Halo environment help shape your Service Data Model? Everyone who attends receives something from us after the event.
  • How do the ‘CMDB’ elements of the SDM help us resolve issues faster and understand their root causes? How do they also help us make changes to our services safely?
  • What challenges will we face when adopting AI and live chat capabilities?

Depending on how the conversations flow, we may also dive deeper into:

  • How can we reset passwords efficiently and safely? Here’s a short video explaining how we’ve done this in the past for another Halo HE customer.
  • How can we use Halo to manage the lifecycle of our assets? Here’s another short video which explains how we’ve done this in the past.
  • What should we consider to enable people to request hardware and software from us? We’ll be happy to demonstrate an option for this directly in Halo.

Who is facilitating the session?

Chris Hodder

Founder and CEO, CIH Solutions

Founded CIH Solutions in 2007 and has spent the years since working on service management for organisations across the UK and Europe, including universities. He opens the day and keeps the discussion moving, which mostly means making sure the quiet end of the table gets asked as often as the loud end.

Mike Walker

CTO, CIH Solutions

Mike spent around seven years inside a Russell Group university, so he knows what it is like to support academics, students, and professional services staff, each of whom expects something different from IT. He presented at HaloSphere 2025, and the password reset, exam room booking and asset disposal clips we have been sharing are three of the solutions he showed there. He has plenty more, and a day with a room full of universities is the excuse he needs to get them out.

Thanks Chris, Mike for your excellent ITSM and AI workshop I attended this week. It was a great format, an expert presentation from Sam and Aimilios on AI capabilities and current limitations and then thinking through operational use cases and applications.

I had the pleasure recently of attending an Automation workshop organised by CIH, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The day was well-structured, engaging, and packed with excellent insights on automation strategy. Chris did a brilliant job hosting, and the venue added to the overall quality of the event. It was also a fantastic chance to connect with peers and subject matter experts. I’d strongly recommend these workshops to anyone interested in automation and look forward to joining more CIH hosted sessions in future. Thanks to Chris and the team!

I recently attended an Automation workshop hosted by CIH, this was a very well run, enjoyable and informative day spent discussing the subject and getting advice on our own plans for Automation initiatives. Chris was a fantastic host, it was held in a great venue and the session was a good opportunity to network with other attendees and subject matter experts. I would definitely recommend attending future workshops and look forward to attending a future event.

Really enjoyed attending the Automation Workshop; everyone had the opportunity to discuss what automation means, how and where it can be applied and a plan on how to move forward. Brilliant expertise around the table, sharing experiences, challenges, quick wins and a great networking opportunity - thanks CIHS for hosting! Looking forward to the next one.

FAQ

No. It is aimed at people running Halo in higher education, but if you are evaluating it, or you have inherited it recently, you will get as much from the room as anyone.

Not very. It is built for people who own services rather than configure them. Halo administrators are welcome, but less of it will be new to you.

Yes. Plenty of people get the most from a session like this by hearing how others have handled the same decisions.

We would rather spend a day with people who run higher education IT services than run another webinar. You get practical help. We gain a better understanding of the problems higher education faces right now, which sharpens what we offer the sector. After two decades in, a room like this helps us keep learning. Halo are always happy to hear directly from customers too.
